Dragon Wheels Restorations 1966 Chevrolet Corvette
Approximately 20 years ago I undertook some full “ground-up”, “nut and bolt” rebuilds on a number of cars for an overseas client. One of which was a lovely, original numbers matching 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible.
I imported this un-hit, survivor quality Vette from the US and then undertook the full concours standard, body-off, rebuild on the car. It included some special details for its owner and once completed and signed-off, it was transported to the clients Monaco home, very close to the sea. Unfortunately, I did not see the car again, until a few months ago.
The present owner contacted me and said the car was in need of some care and attention and could I undertake the work for him……
Upon inspection, whilst the exterior body and paint plus interior trim was in superb condition, looking very fresh, unfortunately the close proximity to the sea, humid climate and complete lack of general maintenance had taken a tough tole on the cars drivetrain and suspension/steering/braking componentry.
Now with me, the cars 327ci V8 has been returned to Peter Knight for a full rebuild. I have stripped out both front corners of the car and rebuilt and redetailed these with better brake calipers.
At the rear end of the car, both trailing arm assemblies have been stripped, redetailed and rebuilt. Again with better brake calipers.
